Well i woke up to my subs , stereo, and amp stolen out of my vehicle. The cheap 100 dollar alarm had been cut.

I’ve heard about LoJack security systems that can track down your car if its stolen is this a could security system for your car??

does anyone know about how many people, percentage wise, get their homes burglarized every year?? and is it common for the POS burglar to actually come back to the same house they just robbed? And how good of a deterrent is an alarm system? I just had one put in as my house was robbed over the weekend and i’ve lost my sense of security in my own home so i have this fear that they will come back for more while i’m here this time.

My nephew just bought a remodeled home. It was a flip house. This house has a brinks home security system and no codes or manuel was left in the house. Brinks wont help him reset the alarm unless he signs a 3 yr contract. He doesn’t want to use an outside service, he just wants it to sound if someone breaks in. Anyone know how to reset it?

The caveat is "If I configure my computer to be secure regardless of the network it’s on, then it simply doesn’t matter."

Can you tell me specifically what software and setups I should have to provide this extra security?

- I already have a firewall (Sygate cus Zone Alarm messed my system up)
- I turned off file sharing

Do I need to do anything else? And what software will tell me who is using my wifi besides myself?

Assume that the risks of using the internet regardless of connection are understood. What additional precautions are necessary for using an open wifi?
As state, I already have a firewall. Answers like "get a firewall" indicate you didn’t read the question.

Likewise "don’t do it" is not an answer to my question… It’s an opinion.

Are there any security experts that can answer this or at least point me to who can?

I own a home and am renting out 2 of the rooms, one to a girl I don’t know. I recently had a security system installed, then found out she gave the code to her boyfriend and best friend. This makes me uncomfortable and I told her I don’t want anyone but those living in the house to have the code. I put it in the contract and changed the code and told her not to give it out, even to her boyfriend. She said ok, but I’m still worried about it… am I being unreasonable/

… that someone is watching me and something bad is gonna happen. This might sound totally stupid but its pretty scary. My parents are gone tonight so I’m here with my aunt and sister. They are really heavy sleepers (aunt’s half deaf and sisters only 8), so i consider myself the only legit person here… haha. I live in a 6,000 sq ft house in the west hills and we’ve had a couple of burglary problems before. I went through the whole house and locked all the doors and turned on some random lights and TVs all over the place. I can’t turn on the security alarm because we’re in the middle of a remodel so a couple new door dont have censors making the whole system "not ready". I was feeling a little better until my dog starts freaking out and staring out the back window as if someone was there. She was barking really loud and followed whatever it was through the walls. I went to tell my aunt (she didnt hear the dog even though it was 10 ft away from her, grr..) and so i decided to sleep upstairs tonight. I’m watching TV and i’m on IM to get my mind off of it. Could my feelings about this mean anything? Oh yea nobody is in the gate house watching the cameras now and its not hard to get through the gates (we’ve had car robberies during the night before).

I have an alarm system with ADT. We have a motion detector, and my dad is saying that it will pick up on dogs (we’re planning on getting a dog soon), and go off.

Questions: Would there be anyway I can get a motion detector that won’t pick up on animals and go off? Or should I just keep my dog in a room while we aren’t at home?
Do you have a dog (or any other animal)? What do you do with having a motion detector in your house when you aren’t at home? Any suggestions?

I don’t feel right leaving my dog outside (especially for long periods of time). Thanks in advance.

my parents want to get a dog for security. my parents only criteria is that it isn’t tiny like a poodle but that it doesn’t grow very large. we have lots of children and friends constantly come through here (home business) so we’d like a breed that isn’t too vicious but still enough to scare away a thief. btw we have bars on the windows and an alarm system so we’re not putting the job of home security solely on a dog but we figured it’d be nice to have one as added protection. so I know it’s a tall order but what breeds do you have in mind?

Well, I’m in need of extra motion sensors for my home and the subcontracted security company that installed my alarm is quoting a ridiculous price of 0 per sensor. Well I can get the sensors online for each brand new. The thing is, they wont guarantee the sensors even though I would go through them for installation. I know how to install the sensors and I would have to call ADT my monitor to tell them that new sensors were added. My question is will I have to state that I’m an installer and give some kind of special code when I call ADT telling them that new zones where added or state the company I work for if i were an installer or could I just tell them the zones with out any questions asked?
P.S: I am under a 3 year contract with ADT, but the system is mine.

thanks for the response. These motions are wireless and I have the installer’s and I am able to program them. I have the Ademco Lynx Panel. So your saying I can just do it myself and not notify ADT? I thought that if an alarm came in to them that it showed which zone was tripped. Wouldn’t they get some kind of unknown signal if one of the motions that I were to install triggered an alarm? Thanks
hmmm ok i see. What if i put my system on disregard and program and install the sensors. I do have the code and the manuals for programming. Will ADT give me a hard time and maybe take some kind of legal action? It is MY system and the only contract I have with them is for monitoring, the system is mine I should be able to do what every I like with it. any ideas, Thanks for the response =)
