What steps should I take to get into the music business?

<< Awkward Stage in life, too many decisions to make.?  Can anyone dispute these Obamacare facts which nancy Pelosi put in H.R.3200? >>

(Male – 17 years old)

It is my senior year is High School, about to make a big decision if I should go to college or not. Trying to decide what to base the rest of my life on. But my passion is too sing. I have sang for talent shows in schools, in churches, and once in a club. From feedback that I have received I was told that I have a natural Pop/R&B voice. Which is what I mostly sing.

I was encouraged by friends, family, and my church community to audition for American Idol’s season 8, and was close to making it, but I couldn’t get a "guardian" to come with me to the show. =(

I have talked to my parents about it, but they are not sure if I should try to start a career in singing. They support me and everything, but I don’t know how to get started. I tried searching online, but I get information that I am already aware of.

I am currently practicing for a Christmas Show in church (Joy to the World, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Silent Night are the 3 songs I will be singing).

What I need help on is how to get discovered?
How to find a manager?
Where to get started?

Thank you all in advance for your answers.

    your options are either to:

*go to collage. it could be a music collage. and take singing courses there and become even better than what you are now.

*not go to collage and look online and find a manager. you might not immediately need a manager, but you should rent some studio time and record a demo cd.and after that, get a manager or go solo and try to make it on your own.

i wish the best of luck to u and if u ever become a famous singer, let me know.

You should try recording a demo. If you have a friend or know anyone who has a home-studio, ask them if you could borrow it for a day or two, record a little something where you sing, preferablyyour own material and send it to various record companies. And don’t worry about aiming too high or too low, send it to any record company you can come up with. Oh, and don’t ever apply for American Idol. That program will rape your artistic integrity. Kthxbye.
