I made bad choices when I was in school with my grades and now I’m worried…?

<< Chances of getting into USC, Stanford, UCLA, Columbia...?  can I skip my senior year of HS for community college ? >>

I applied to a community college near my other family, but when I was in 11th grade, my grades took a NOSE DIVE. And when I was a senior, I got them back up. Well I dual enrolled in the local college in town and just totally bombed the classes (it’s a long story) Anyway, I graduated high school was a GPA of 2.8 and a 19 on my ACT with my writing at 21.

However, the local college put me on academic watch.I finished out the college with a GPA of .5. It’s awesome lol. I understand I’ll probably be on it again at a different school, but I’m scared I’ve ruined my life. I want to change my life around and at this new college I want to studt paralegal.

I know I’m smart and can do better. My questions are: Did I ruin my life with the stupid dual enrollment? And can I be a lawyer with such a bad grade record?? Thanks.

OK, this sounds similar to trying to repair a very poor credit report. You have some major damage control work to do to establish your credibility on your next school effort.

Step 1. Get all of your past course work together along with the college catalog (which give you the detailed course descriptions) and copies of past transcripts.

Step 2. Get the catalog for the new college you want to attend…and make sure you now the details of the course you must have to get your diploma from them that lines you up for graduation and Law School.

You now have the information on what you have done so far….and what will be expected (or what you will need to do).

Option 1: Repeat classes at the first college. But check on the policy of repeating classes…the key is that if you repeat, and you complete with a higher grade, does the newer/higher grade replace the former one? In most cases it will.

When you do repeat the classes….I would suggest taking a lighter load…even just one class each term…at least for the first term. This gives you time to focus and concentrate to get the one class done very, very well. And this success helps rebuild your credibility with the college and counselors.

If some of the classes were challenging, you might want to take the class online (for free as a refresher / practice at a website like http://learnthat.com/

Option 2: Start off clean at the news school….but if they become aware of your past exploits at the other school, you may be starting off on the wrong foot…and may have a worse credibility problem.

Option 1 may be along row to hoe…but if you can repeat and successfully complete the “bad” grade classes with substantially higher grades, you can succeed.

good luck in your efforts. I hope this helps.

Well i didnt do too well in high school either, but luckily i was accepted in college (I live in South Africa) and now im doing great, so its not to say that if you did bad in school, its over! Its actually the opposite, just try again and you will succeed
