What security apps should I install if I open my Wifi?
I am swayed by Bruce Schneier’s article on opening your home network:

The caveat is "If I configure my computer to be secure regardless of the network it’s on, then it simply doesn’t matter."
Can you tell me specifically what software and setups I should have to provide this extra security?
- I already have a firewall (Sygate cus Zone Alarm messed my system up)
- I turned off file sharing
Do I need to do anything else? And what software will tell me who is using my wifi besides myself?
Assume that the risks of using the internet regardless of connection are understood. What additional precautions are necessary for using an open wifi?
As state, I already have a firewall. Answers like "get a firewall" indicate you didn’t read the question.
Likewise "don’t do it" is not an answer to my question… It’s an opinion.
Are there any security experts that can answer this or at least point me to who can?

You may not like to hear it but running your wifi in the open is the worst possible thing that you can do. People can use your Internet connection to download child pornography or other illegal activity. DON’T DO IT!!

November 24th, 2009 at 4:45 amu can open ur wifi. it doesnt slow ur computer or internet acces down at all. for internet security programs i would suggest, mcafee suite 3. this program blocks and destroys any virus.
