Should my renter’s boyfriend have the code to the alarm?

<< ok home alone and i have this feeling...?  What security apps should I install if I open my Wifi? >>

I own a home and am renting out 2 of the rooms, one to a girl I don’t know. I recently had a security system installed, then found out she gave the code to her boyfriend and best friend. This makes me uncomfortable and I told her I don’t want anyone but those living in the house to have the code. I put it in the contract and changed the code and told her not to give it out, even to her boyfriend. She said ok, but I’m still worried about it… am I being unreasonable/

No, it’s your house and so you can make any rules you want. Her boyfriend and best friend are not living there (or at least shouldn’t be) and there is really no reason for them to have the code. You don’t even know them and your renter should be happy that you’re keeping the house safe.

no your being safe! there’s nothing wrong with that!

just think , the boyfriend has no business in your home when his girlfriend isn’t there so shouldn’t need the code!!

You aren’t being unreasonable, but you need to recognize that you can’t control other people’s actions, so you will always run the risk of a renter giving out private information. In the future, make it clear from day 1 that keys, passcodes, etc. are not to be shared with anyone.

    no you’re not.
you’re the landlord, and its your house and property. Tell her this and say that if she does it again shes out.
Its your safety and you should trust your instincts.
you can’t stop her telling her boyfriend- short of zipping her mouth up! if you don’t think he is safe or reasonable tell her hes not allowed back. you are the landlord!
or just get a new lodger- and state this point from the beginning.
    good luck.

Not unreasonable at all. You should feel safe in your home at all times. Evict her if you dont trust her. Change the alarm. Simple

no, you are not being unreasonable. Only people who is on the lease should have the code. I dont blame you. But you cant trust people and I guarantee that they bf and the best friend have the code again. Just hope nothing goes wrong.

You are not being unreasonable, an alarm is there to keep the people living there aware of any issues or problems while you all are away. No one else should have the code, what happens if they break up and something happens, the house is now open to whatever they want to do. They will know when you all are gone, and you might show up to nothing. With gas prices they way they are, people are having a hard time making it, and you said it yourself you really don’t know the girl yet.

Yeah you have every right. Since you put it in the contract and she broke it you can evict her at any time.
