Applying to Stanford/MIT?

<< How would I go about getting a demo of Wii for a retirement community?  Vegetarian Thanksgiving options? >>

Hi. I am currently a Junior in high school and i am thinking of applying to Stanford in my senior year for early action.

I am korean-american. (English is my second language)

By my senior year, my expected GPA is around 4.8 out of 5.0(weighted)

My composite SAT score is 2140

Math- 800
CR- 660
Writing- 680.

My rank is 24th out of 884.

Also, my school is one of the worst high schools in this nation. (if this means anything)

For my extracurricular activities,

i have been in my church’s praise band for 5 years and i’ve been the leader of the band for 2 years.

i’ve volunteered in my local library for past 2 years consistently.

i am the regimental commander in the JROTC in my school(the top person in charge).

Played baseball for 4 years, 2 years in varsity and will play varsity football in senior year.

I have started the school’s math team.

I am in scholastic bowl team.

I have taken 4 years of math up to now (junior year including AP Calc BC and AP Statistics) and will take Multivariable Calculus and Physics in the community college.

I know i am a little shaky on my CR…

But i am confident that i can get an 800 on SAT II Math level 2.

Would my strength in math compensate the weakness i have in english?

Do you guys think i would even have a smallest chance of getting accepted at Stanford?

I REALLY REALLY want to get into Stanford and i would like to know if i would even have a chance.

Please be honest. If you guys think i have no chance at all, please tell me so and why.

Thank you guys.

P.S. If no for Stanford, how about MIT, Princeton or Brown?

    Unweighted GPA, please =]

The ‘worst school’ thing isn’t exactly going to work in your favor. It’s good to see that you are so far advanced in math, but college is centered about writing. I’ve even had to do term papers in a linear algebra class =]

Princeton and MIT are both MUCH harder to get into than Stanford, and Brown is equally difficult.

Let me be honest here – although you sound like a very intelligent guy, I don’t think you’ll be taken by Stanford, Brown, or Princeton.

HOWEVER, I do think you’d have a definite shot at MIT. There, the outstanding math skills are in fact enough to cover slips in English. Besides, if you’re not that strong in English, but are very good in math, MIT would be a much better fit for you, anyways.

    Best of luck!

(Korean people will not go to top schools, Stanford/MIT hates koreans!)

You probably play guitar etc. sing for your church, just like every other korean.

You have a high g.p.a like every other korean.

You have a varsity sport like every other korean.

You probably play violin or piano and have been for years like every korean.

Your grades/SAT are great like every other korean.

You probly live in L.A??? and go to B.C.D!

You are like every other korean so dont get your hopes up. You are competing against every other korean and I know so many like you dude… Good luck
